Owlet Class

Welcome to Owlet Class

Owlet Class is where our youngest pupils start their time at Checkendon School. Pupils join us when they are ‘rising five’, and enter Owlet Reception Class where Mrs Wortley teaches, with help of Mrs Thomas.  All Reception aged children, (rising fives), are able to start school full time at the beginning of the Autumn Term.

The children's interests determine the direction of our  learning but the general themes we work within are:

Term 1-All about Me

Term 2-Space

Term 3-Once Upon A Time

Term 4-Animal Magic

Term 5-Wild and Wonderful

Term 6-Explorers

Term 2, Week 4

This week we have been planning our trip to the moon! We have read the story of Whatever Next, hot-seated Little Bear and role-played his adventure using props.

We have thought about what we will take with us into space and made passports ready for our journey.

Each day we have had story time from space with astronauts on the International Space Station reading a different story and explaining what it is like to live in space.  https://storytimefromspace.com/

We have also thought about the moon, creating textured paintings, mixing black and white to make different shades of grey.

Next week we are continuing our work on Whatever Next and beginning to think about the Christmas Story.
