A Midsummer Night's Dream

We had a fantastic day led by Harry from Splats, a leading learning company with expertise in teaching pupils how the learning process works using creative arts and physical skills.  Pupils of all ages took part in an exciting day focussing on learning to learn.  As they investigated the play together, they developed an understanding of the learning process, how to learn from mistakes and the importance of each individual in the success of the team.  They found out about how to break down skills, how to perform with confidence, and how to support and teach others.  By the end of a day of practice, controlled effort and creative thinking, not only had they made a play in a day, they had also improved their understanding of growth mindset learning.

The day began with an assembly to introduce the pupils and teachers to the play and the characters they would be playing.  This gave Harry the opportunity to explain the story and also the tasks ahead for the pupils and the teachers.  The play was split into 4 scenes and during the day each house group took part in a drama workshop focussing on one scene from the play.  After assembly Harry worked with the first group and the other three groups started making the props and scenery.

At the end of the day all the classes came together to perform the show. Harry acted as narrator which helped to guide the play along and acted as a cue for the pupils. It was very impressive how the pupils understood and were able to perform a Shakespeare comedy so proficiently in such a short space of time.

Many thanks to Harry for his brilliant leadership throughout the day and to all the parents who came to be the audience for the show.  We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
